Begin where you are. Be curious! Come with an open mind to possibility.
Yoga is a practice for every body. Yoga is for you. Yoga is for me. If you can breathe you can do yoga, it is simply a matter of taking the time to find a style and teacher that suits you.
There is no need to be flexible or strong to do yoga because the practice meets you where you are on the day and every day that you return to it. Over time a committed practice can unravel the knots and limitations – physical, emotional mental or energetic – yoga makes you stronger, more flexible, releases you from past habits and helps to form new life affirming patterns.
Yoga East Beginners Courses
Yoga East runs beginners yoga courses throughout the year. We run a 6 week program designed to introduce students to the key principles of Hatha, yin and restorative yoga. At Yoga East, we teach three main styles of yoga – Hatha flow, Yin, Restorative – providing something for everyone and allowing you to begin from where you are NOW.
Benefits of Yoga
When you are disciplined and you practice regularly you can expect to:
- Strengthen your muscles and bones
- Mobilise your joints – feel less stiff and enjoy more mobility
- Increase flexibility – build stability in the joints
- Enjoy better balance and concentration
- Increase your stamina
- Improve cardiovascular health – healthier blood pressure and better circulation
- Build core strength and enjoy less back pain
- Develop awareness of your body and how thoughts/emotions affect the body
When we learn how to be calm and steady, connected with our breath and the moment, we learn how to feel into each pose and to move through life with an open heart and a quiet mind. A quiet mind becomes a tool to explore ourselves deeply, enabling us to more easily face life’s challenges and be open to the endless possibilities that exist for us all.

This is a beginner’s class for people who have completed a Yoga East Beginner’s course and wish to consolidate their practice. The class is open to those who would like to try a yoga class, for those after a slower, gentler practice or for those who wish to refresh their practice after a break.
Margot will guide you through a gentle class that allows you to move at a slower pass. The class is designed specifically to support your yoga journey and help you make yoga a part of your weekly self care program. The practice will follow on from the Yoga East Beginner’s course and will follow a similar format with small variations each week – spinal movements, sun salute A (moving towards a classical sun salute), standing poses, seated poses and a selection of lying poses or a restorative pose followed by either meditation or a yoga nidra. Each week we will focus on a different group of poses – standing, balances, twists, core, forward folds, back bends, restorative – and how they can help build a stronger and more flexible body and mind.

“Excellent introduction to the physical benefits and different types of movements and links to breathing. Short simple information regarding the broader place of yoga in lifestyle, its history and origins, use of language and of ritual. A variety of ages and physical abilities in participants was easily managed by the teacher – very adaptable. This course is good for complete beginners as well as other who may have done some yoga previously. Superb teacher. Margot has an excellent teaching style and even in a full room all participants were individually addressed, praised or corrected as necessary. Clear language, demonstrations and an emphasis on safety.”Lesley Lee
” After not having done yoga for a long time, and felt unsure of my capacity to be able to do some of the postures, I was pleased by the way Margot treated each person differently as our needs, body types and abilities all differed. I didn’t feel at all like I had to keep up. The handouts were clear, well done, all easy to follow and I liked the way we all got the information sheets before classes.”Chris Matthews
“I have enjoyed all aspects of the course. Meditation has been very helpful. Margot’ voice is very soothing i could listen all day. I would definitely recommend the course. I feel very well after class and it helps with the week’s madness. I will be back – just loved it!.”Barb Hammond
“ Easy to understand verbal instructions/descriptions for what each part of your body should be doing. Margot is able to impart her knowledge in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. It is great to learn the differences between the different types of yoga. also having course notes emailed allows you to read them at your own leisure. Definitely recommend the course – being a novice beginner with mobility issues (&health issues) I felt comfortable and safe.”
“A very comfortable environment. There wasn’t a classroom full of experienced people so I felt at ease. Emails helped before the class helped heaps!. I need to refer back to notes and the stick figure diagrams helped to show what the poses should look like. Margot has a great teaching style. Great at showing, explaining and repeating until it sinks in (eventually). I have learnt heaps from why i would do yoga and grasping basic understanding of how to do basic poses. I wish I had done it sooner.”Alyson Harrington
“ I’ve been to a few beginners classes where you almost start with a shoulder stand. Margot, I loved your class today. Nice and slow & actually starting from the beginning. If anyone is considering yoga, contact Margot. You won’t regret it.“Tari Mills
