Indulgent Tahini Salted Fudge
Is it just me or do you just love tahini? I can’t get enough of this yummy nutty sesame seed spread. I have to admit I have been known to put a spoon straight into the jar and eat it off the spoon. I spread it on toast, put it in dressings, lentil dishes it goes everywhere. As a vegetarian, I am always interested in finding ways to add more protein into my diet which makes tahini a winner as it contains more protein than milk and most nuts. Tahini is a rich source of B vitamins which help the body boost energy and improve brain function.
My research also revealed that it contains vitamin E, which is not always easy to get into your diet yet it has fabulous protective actions against both heart disease and stroke. In terms of minerals, tahini is packed with magnesium, iron, and calcium which can help strengthen your immune system. Most people prefer the paler type, made from hulled (skinned) seeds however the unhulled has a higher nutritional value and more of that wonderful fiber that cleanses your large intestine. I am really keen to explore making tahini fudge from black tahini – wow how strange would that be?
Now like all sweet goodies it is important to eat in moderation even if like me you follow a Keto-style diet, I know how hard is that, because Tahini has a high-fat content and a high number of calories. The great thing about this fabulous spread is it easy for your body to digest because of its high alkaline mineral content and this helps keeps you alkaline and is great for assisting in weight loss. The phytoestrogens present in tahini, are extremely beneficial in managing hormones in women Tahini is an all-around winner.
Here is my simple indulgent but super healthy tahini salted fudge recipe.
- 1 cup of tahini
- 2 tbs of cacao butter
- 2 tbs of coconut oil
- 2 tbs of honey (or use agave syrup if you would like this to be vegan)
- 4 tbs of organic cacao powder
- A vanilla bean pod scraped or use a 1 tsp of vanilla extract
- a generous pinch of coarse sea salt
- Line a small baking dish with baking paper.
- Gently melt together the cacao butter, coconut oil, honey, and tahini.
- Pour liquid into a blender and add vanilla, cacao powder, and sea salt. Blend until smooth.
- Pour into the baking dish and place in the freezer for a couple of hours.
- Cut up your fudge. If you want the squares to be even allow the fudge to soften for 10 minutes at room temperature.
- You can store your fudge in a jar in the freezer or the fridge.
